Marielle Franco remains a symbol of resistance and courage in the face of systemic injustice. As a Brazilian politician, feminist, and human rights activist, she dedicated her life to championing the rights of marginalized communities, particularly Afro-Brazilians, LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and those living in low-income neighborhoods.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro's favelas, Marielle experienced firsthand the social inequalities and violence that pervade these communities. Her murder on March 14, 2018—along with her driver, Anderson Pedro Gomes—shocked Brazil and the world. It underscored the dangers faced by those who confront entrenched violence and corruption.
